In the spirit of sharing, it is timely to reflect on 2013 and plan ahead for the New Year.
This year, we continued to focus on providing value for our existing members and made attempts to reach out to new ones. We hope you have taken advantage of our planned events for learning and networking. The 2013 Annual Event was well received, with positive feedback on the topics, speakers and information disseminated. Efforts were made to source speakers to engage in topics that are practice oriented in our Members' Nite Events and we introduced 'Lunch and Learns' in 2013 'Lunch and Learn' is a new platform for information sharing on specific topics at your premises and are available on request.
Correspondingly, the Intellectual Capital Section has been enriched by materials from these sessions; these "gold nuggets" are accessible to members at the itSMF SG Chapter website www.itsmf.org.sg . We hope that you have benefitted from our monthly newsletters, promotional publications, partner events and updates on ITSM in the international front. The plan is to continue conducting these events on a regular basis in 2014 and encourage you to not only attend but participate by way of sharing your experiences. The Problem with Outsourcing Your Problems- by

In line with itSMF Singapore Chapter's efforts to bring additional value to the Service Management community, we had recently introduced "Lunch and Learn" initiative which is typically a 90-minute session held at a corporate?s premises exclusively to that organization.
The second "brown bag session" was held for FedEx Express on the topic of Outsourcing which has been around as far back as the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, during the Industrial Revolution. The reason up until now, is still similar; maximise the organisation's competitive advantages to increase market share and growth. It was materials and components then but included services and business processes as we headed towards the twentieth century. Outsourcing is not without its own set of risks and issues though. In this presentation, we look at some of the basics on outsourcing, the considerations, challenges and recommendations on ensuring that the partnership is mutually beneficial and lasting.
Feedback on the event has been positive and include comments that the talk "provided very practical and simple ideas for all, including the non-IT staff in attendance", attendees "appreciate the simplicity of the concepts presented and the real-world examples to back those".
Similar Lunch and Learn sessions are being planned in the months ahead. If you would like to organize one such session for your firm or if you would like to present in these sessions, please write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reaching Out to the Next Gen...
Mr. Rama Prasad, President itSMF Singapore Chapter presented to students from the School of Infocomm at two events at Republic Polytechnic recently - Industry Day and Diploma of IT Service Management Camp on August 23 and October 7 2013 respectively.On both occasions, he shared invaluable insights on IT Service Management, ITIL, potential career paths, skills, etc to potential IT Service Management professionals, reaching out to more than 900 students. This is part of the initiative to raise the level of awareness and reach out to the next generation of IT Service Management professionals. Note: Republic Polytechnic, School of Infocomm offers a 3 year Diploma in IT Service Management (www.rp.edu.sg).
As part of the continued efforts to create awareness and possibly entice few to the IT Service Management discipline, IT Service Management Forum (itSMF) Singapore Chapter is planning to hold a competition for students studying in Universities, Polytechnics and ITE.
