CMDB - The Heart of a Configuration Management System
A key concept of ITIL is a configuration management system consisting of one or more configuration management databases (CMDBs), other management data repositories, and processes to maintain the fidelity of the data. The data consists of configuration items (CIs) and relationships between CIs and with process artifacts, such as incidents, problems, changes, and releases. A properly constructed CMDB is a knowledge base for service management processes. This presentation describes the core features of an effective configuration management system. Topics covered include linking configuration and (financial) asset information; integrating trusted data sources; building on a rich and extendible data model; cleansing and reconciling data; federating multiple repositories; auditing to maintain data accuracy; controlling user access to specific data; and leveraging and customizing the model as a foundation for service management processes. |

CMDB - Strategic Asset in Managing Services
The mention of a CMDB project brings many different emotions to various audiences within the organization. Business organizations often think it's just another IT project with no value add, IT organizations cringe at the complexity the project brings and neither organization rarely understands that the CMDB is The Strategic Asset to the whole organization. This session will cover why the CMDB is a strategic asset and not just an IT project. Topics to be covered will be: * Why embark upon a CMDB Project? * Who owns the CMDB and where does it reside? * What value will it bring to become The Strategic Asset to the organization? * Real stories from the trenches of those who have been successful
